December 13, 1920 - January 6, 2012 William D. Johnson of Denver passed away Friday, January 6, 2012, at the age of 91. He was born in Rocky Ford, Colorado, to Frank S. and Frances Lewis Johnson. He graduated from Rocky Ford High School with honors, where he was also a star athlete. Bill Johnson continued his honor education at the University of Colorado, where he met his wife, Maryanna Quaintance. In 1944 he received a letter from the Dean of the University of Denver's Law School, upon his graduating, citing his visionary philosophy and his ranking in the top six of a class of over 250. This vision became his attitude in all aspects of his life. He began his law career as a partner in the law firm of Quaintance and Johnson. He became President of Colorado Federal Savings and Loan Association and Western Federal Savings and Loan Association. Bill served as chairman of the Regional Transit Authority. Pursuing his visionary thinking for the RTD's future, he made proposals that are now a reality. He was President of the Denver Chamber of Conference and Chairman of the Colorado United Way. His passion for golf led him to the Presidency of the Lakewood Country Club and, ultimately, as a co-founder of the Bear Creek Golf Club, where he held a coveted “hole in one” Award. He played the finest golf courses throughout the United States. He is survived by his sons Christopher R. Johnson of Littleton, Timothy Q. Johnson of Morrison, loving companion Myra Buroughs of Denver, brother Robert L. Johnson of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and grandchildren Josh Johnson of Brooklyn, NY, Shawn Fitzgerald of Oklahoma City, OK., Kerry Fitzgerald of Denver, and Bridgit Fitzgerald of Denver.
