Virginia Lucille Fox

September 3, 1929-November 12, 2018 Virginia Fox, 89, passed away November 12, 2018 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Virginia lived in Colorado for over 57 years with most of them spent in Westminster and, after retirement, in Broomfield. She grew up in Illinois and traveled west in search of clean dry air and open spaces. Virginia fell in love with the beautiful Rocky Mountains and adopted an active lifestyle taking every opportunity to play tennis, run road races, hike, camp, ski and gaze at the stunning views of the northern Front Range. Virginia was one of the first in her family to attend college and gained a degree in library science which was well used in her position as an elementary school librarian at Gregory Hill and Baker Schools in Adams County School District 50. Her desire to support children in their quest for learning, reading and being successful in school, community and life was evident when one walked into her welcoming and cozy libraries replete with comfy reading nooks, book displays of birds and other creatures surrounded by stuffed animals, easy to follow directions encouraging independence in the use of library resources and an approachable librarian willing to listen. Retirement from the school district allowed Virginia to follow her second career path as an author of children’s stories which were published in several books. While the written word in story and poem form were near to Virginia’s heart it was in story telling that one of her true lights shined. Virginia was a Master Story Teller and through her business Fox Tales was widely sought after to educate, entertain and mesmerize audiences at Women’s Camps, university classrooms, primary school assemblies and birthday parties. Virginia’s compelling and often humorous story content, along with amazing delivery, drew in every listener and compelled those in the hallway to step into the room to hear more. While story telling had Virginia in front of audiences in later years it was Virginia’s talent as a pianist and singer that first put her on stage. Singing and playing with a band and in numerous choirs, large and small, made Virginia’s heart sing even after losing most of her hearing to a virus contracted in her 20’s. Virginia married John Fox in El Paso, Texas and raised a son and three daughters, passing to them and her grandchildren and great grandchild her zest for life, idea that nothing is impossible and that every day and person met is a gift. Virginia also gave the gift of love, nurturing and surrogate mothering to many teens and adult friends of her own children. All have benefitted from the bounty of her largesse. Virginia is survived by her son John Fox and his wife Daria Davidson and great grandson Caleb Fox of Seattle Washington, daughter Marie Fox of Evergreen, Colorado, daughter Margaret Fox of Greeley, Colorado and her children Michaela and Daley Hall, and daughter Beth Fox and her husband John Florkiewicz of Winter Park, Colorado, beloved nieces in Florida, Georgia and Arizona, and extended family members living across the USA. A memorial service for Virginia will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018, at Advent Lutheran Church, 7979 Meade St., Westminster, Colo. 80030.
