Vincent Charles Baldassano

September 13, 1921 — March 12, 2016

Vincent “Vinnie” Baldassano died after a long life of 94 years. He was born in Pennsylvania from Sicilian Immigrants who later moved to Brooklyn, NY where he was raised. During the Great Depression, jobs were scarce and Vincent joined the Civilian Conservation Corp and was sent to Idaho for work in the National Forest. World War II brought Vincent into the U.S. Army and he served in North Africa and in Europe. After the war, Vincent met his wife Mary (nee Fiamelli), another child of Sicilian immigrants from Ontario, Canada. They were married in 1948 in New York City. Vincent and Mary initially lived in New York City and later moved to the Buffalo area. They raised four children: Vincent, Lynne, Steven and Lori. Vincent worked at the Army Corp of Engineers as an Engineering Draftsman and retired from the Veterans Administration where he worked at the Buffalo VA Hospital. Mary maintained the home and was known as an excellent cook using the vegetables from the extensive gardening which Vincent enjoyed as a hobby. After Vincent retired, Vincent and Mary decided to join their children in relocating to Denver, Colorado. They had an exciting vibrant retirement.. They loved to travel with extensive travel to Italy, the Mexican Riviera, and Sicily. They took eleven cruises to the Caribbean, Hawaii, the South Pacific and the Mediterranean. Vincent and Mary also enjoyed entertainment at casinos with many trips to the Colorado Mountain Casinos, Las Vegas and Laughlin, Nevada. Vincent's beloved wife, Mary, died in 2010 at 84. Eventually, Vincent moved to care facilities where his laughter and joy in living with his piano playing was welcomed by the staff and residents. Vincent and Mary had chosen cremation. Vincent, being a U.S. Army Veteran, has the honor of being interred at Fort Logan National Veterans Cemetery in Denver with his wife of 62 years, Mary, alongside. Vincent and Mary are survived by their children Vincent, Lynne and her husband, Bill, Steven and Lori; with four grandchildren: Brandan, Michael, Jessica and Anna. The family celebrates Vincent Charles and Mary Ann Baldassano and ask you to join us in their memory of a successful and happy long life.
