V Maxine Carlson

May 11, 1937 — December 18, 2023

Maxine Carlson, age 86 of Arvada, Colorado entered her heavenly home, Monday, December 18, 2023 at Sandalwood Manor.

Maxine was born in Iola, Kansas, the only child of William Jennings “Bryan” and Gladys Marie Thomas. They lived on a farm for seven years before moving to Grand Junction, Colorado because of her health.

Maxine grew up in Grand Junction and graduated from high school in 1955. She went on and attended Mesa College, majoring in home economics, and was chosen one of the “best dressed girls in college”. A distinction she carried out her entire life. She was also a member of the Stepperites, a pom-pom dance group, at Mesa College. Maxine was crowned Colorado Peach Queen in 1956 where she was able to travel Colorado promoting Colorado Peaches. Her last quarter at Mesa she met Ed Carlson from Englewood, CO and they were married August 16, 1958. They moved to the eastern slope, living in Greeley, Wheatridge and Arvada, Colorado.

Maxine had many different jobs, but she was most proud of her role as wife and mother. She was very talented and creative especially as a seamstress. She sewed most of her own clothes along with clothes for her children and grandchildren. Ed and Maxine are members of Lakewood Church of the Nazarene where she was very active in many activities. Maxine was also a volunteer at Lutheran Hospital for 38 years, as she greeted people at the front desk. A “job” she loved!

Maxine leaves behind her faithful husband of 65 years, Ed Carlson, her daughters, Edianna Yantis, Olathe, KS , Taunia (Phil) Shipman, Granby, CO, and son, Chuck (Rhonda) Carlson, Olathe, KS. She was a very proud Grandmother to Micah (Corey) Fischer, Brady (Tara) Yantis, Savannah Shipman, Madison Shipman, Benjamin (Julia) Shipman, Camella Carlson and Lynae Carlson.

Great grandmother (GiGi) to Emila and Jamison Fischer, Jack Yantis and baby boy Shipman due February 2024.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Son-in-law, Bradley Yantis, and brothers and sister-in-laws.

The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Sandalwood Manor and Brighton Hospice for the love and kindness you showed as you cared for Maxine.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be Saturday, December 30, 2023, 3:00 pm at Lakewood Church of the Nazarene.
