Theodore (Ted) Raymond Fons

Theodore (Ted) Raymond Fons, 75, lost his valiant fight against cancer on July 1, 2016. He was born September 3, 1940, in Weed, California, to Della Fain Fons (nee Baker) and noted forest-fire researcher, Wallace Leo Fons. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older sister, Leona Faye Fons Young of Acampo, California. Ted grew up in Kensington, California, and graduated from El Cerrito High School in 1959. He received a degree in Geophysics in 1963 from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology at Socorro, New Mexico, and worked for Mobil Oil Corporation from 1963 to 1977. He moved to Anchorage, Alaska, and was employed by the Alaska Department of Natural Resources as a Petroleum Geophysicist, returning to Mobil Oil in Denver, Colorado in 1981. Ted opened Excalibur Geophysical Consultants in 1982, marketing the GMA geophysical modeling software. After selling his business to his employees in 1996, Ted embarked on a second career as a ceramic artist, creating Raku art pottery. He exhibited in 15 galleries in six states and won several awards. Ted is survived by his wife and business partner of 33 years, Mary Elizabeth Cooper-Fons, his sons Eric Wallace Fons of Arnold, Maryland and Michael Adam (Sandra) Fons of Aurora, Colorado. He is also survived by Leah (Winki) Fons of Irving, Texas, mother of Eric and Michael, granddaughters Alexandra Leah Fons and Rebecca Nadine Fons of Aurora, Colorado and Zoe Rachel Fons of Arnold, Maryland. He was a dear uncle to Rachel June Dolman of Austin, Texas, and Richard William Dolman of Abilene, Texas, and their numerous cousins. He was the beloved godfather of Ana Lara Alvarez-Keesee of Boston, Massachusetts, and Fairy Godfather of Miss Gloria Lang Crawford of Denver, Colorado, Ted was greatly loved by his family and friends, and he is greatly missed.
