Syalathia Lemont Garrett

June 18, 1969 — April 23, 2017

Syalathia LeMont Garrett, 47, left us too soon on April 23, 2017 after a very long and courageous battle against Cancer that began over a decade earlier. LeMont was born June 18 th 1969 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Nettie Ausborne and Rhay Garrett. He was a happy boy who grew up surrounded by the love of a large family. His siblings (Gayle, Gwen, Larry, Zina, Tyrone, Pallace (BoBo), Tonya, Cheri) regale hilarious stories about his mischievous nature. His brothers especially recall how he was constantly getting them in trouble. He was a favorite of his Grandmother, Castella (Madea), so he often got away with it. From an early age LeMont had a love for comic books and the superheros that filled the pages. He came to idolize Superman who embodied the symbol and ideal that would guide him all his life. LeMont was a bright star at Wasson High School where he achieved good grades, played running back/full back on the football team, sang in Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, played Moonface Martin in the musical Anything Goes and continued to perfect his talent for drawing. Later he attended the University of Northern Colorado, University of Colorado Boulder and Metropolitan State College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and a minor in Art History. In 1988 LeMont met, fell in love with and later married Michelle Mriscin. They lived happily ever after for over 28 years. They were blessed to add to their family two beloved Yorkies, Buddy and later Kazoo. LeMont and Michelle always lived life to the fullest and traveled to many places in the world. They enjoyed incredible trips to Scotland, England, France, Greece and Mexico. In the US they frequently traveled to Las Vegas, Disney World, San Francisco and South Dakota. Their last trip was to New York City in August 2016. Anyone can tell you that LeMont and Michelle are true soul mates and will be for eternity. LeMont is also survived by his birth son Lewther Schwab whom he loved very much. LeMont is a real life Superman to his family and friends for so many reasons. His positive attitude toward life and the pain he endured was amazing. He was also admired for his total compassion for people and his bravery to be a voice for social injustice. He was never afraid to stand up and say what he thought. LeMont lit up every room he walked into and instantly made everyone in the room feel like they were a best friend. He was always there for his wife, family and friends whenever they needed him. His acts of kindness and generosity could fill volumes. His absence in our lives will be felt every day and we will be reminded of him in all things great and small.
