Steven Kee Zickefoose, age 69 of Denver, Colorado passed away Thursday, January 7, 2021 in Denver. He was born June 23, 1951 in Buckhannon, West Virginia a son of late Theodore R. Zickefoose and Marion Bennett Zickefoose Fitzgerald. Steve is survived by his beloved Yorkshire Terrier "Princess" Buckey. Also surviving are two brothers Randall Zickefoose and Donna of Buckhannon, WV and David Zickefoose and companion Wanda Garris of Castle Hayne, NC; two sisters Pamela Woody and TIm, and Beth Day and John all of Buckhannon; nieces; Sarah, Jennifer, Kathy and Shannon; nephews Chris, Matt, Dnaiel, and Michael. Also left to cherish his memory is his Colorado "family" Cheryl Bergstrom, Dena Halstied and family, Gena Sherer and family, and honorary grandson Odin Gaglio who referred to Steve as his "best buddy". Steve was a 1969 graduate of Buckhannon Upshur High School and a 1973 graduate of West Virginia University. He worked at Apple Creek Developmental Center in Apple Creek, Ohio, retiring in 2005 with thirty years of service. After retirement Steve felt the mountains calling and in 2012 relocated to Denver, Colorado. Steve had a love of gardening and was a world traveler visiting over 35 major countries, making lasting friendships worldwide. He was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and was a season ticket holder for many years. He was also a huge fan of his Alma Mater the West Virginia Mountaineers. Although Steve traveled and lived in many different places, he always considered West Virginia home. At his request, he will be cremated. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders. Malesich and Shirey Funeral Home and Crematory of Arvada, Colorado have been entrusted with the arrangements.
