Ruth Carol Anderson

Ruth Carol (Svendsen) Anderson, age 94, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter in Lakewood, Colorado, surrounded by her family on Friday, March 15th, 2019. She was born on June 25, 1924 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to George P. and Abbie C. (Hagelin) Svendsen. After graduating from the University of Minnesota with a degree in business and journalism, she started her love of travel and adventure as an airline stewardess with United Airlines. In 1947 she married Philip D. Anderson (a marriage that lasted 66 years!) and they had 3 children. Always looking for her next challenge, Ruth excelled at a variety of careers: teacher, bookkeeper, office manager, flight dispatcher, published writer, and president of her own contract consulting company doing work for the US Dept of Public Health and the US Census Bureau. She also shared her talents as a volunteer for AmeriCorps. She was an avid golfer, swimmer, gardener, and seamstress. Amazingly, she earned her pilot’s license at 65 and went skydiving at 81! She was preceded in death by her husband Philip Anderson, brothers George Svendsen, Earl (Bud) Svendsen, Edward Svendsen, and sister Janet Dunham. She is survived by her children: Darlene (Don) Maurer, Doug Anderson, Carol (Tom) Lewis, 6 grandchildren: Carol Lynn, Laura, Andrew, Jeffrey, Abby, Aaron and 7 great-grandchildren: Jacinda, Nathan, Jaimen, Haley, Nolan, Deacon, and Kennedy. The family will have a private memorial service later this year Those we love remain with us, For love itself lives on. Cherished memories never fade, Because one loved is gone.
