Robert "Bob" Dunning Sr.

July 20, 1938 — April 4, 2020

Robert “Bob” Joseph Dunning, Sr., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday April 4 2020. Bob was born in Denver Colorado on July 20 1938, to David and Rachel Dunning. He graduated from Denver’s North High School and subsequently joined the United States Navy were he served aboard the USS Rizzi. On the 6th day of June, 1959, Bob was joined in marriage to Earla Mae Woods. This wonderful couple had three children together, Balinda, Robert ( Joe) Joseph Jr and Danielle. His adoring grandchildren, Jessica, Sarah, Justin, Dustin, Domonic, Damien, Luke, Josie and Steven. Bob was also blessed with his great grandchildren, Christian, Hannah, Hunter, Hayden, Ashton, Evalee, Gunnar, Jayden, Jaycee, Kyle and Wyatt. Bobs love for his family was apparent in all that he did. Teasing and teaching were his forte. Second to his dedication to his devoted family, Bob was an avid outdoors-men. He loved to fly fish , was a skilled angler, hunter and camping/RV enthusiast. He shared his love for the great outdoors with everyone he met. He passed on his love for fishing to all of his any children and grandchildren . His legacy will forever be at his cabin at Mt Massive fishing club in Leadville, Colorado Bob worked at Coors as an industrial mechanic where he lead and mentored several young mechanics with his innate mechanical skills . A common quote from these that knew him, was if Bob can’t fix it, it can’t be fixed. While working at Coors, Bob and Earla Mae became active in the Copper Kettles Square Dance Club. For twenty years, Bob also used his great love for people and community as a firefighter for the Arvada Fire Department. Bob will forever be known a Santa Claus to the Arvada Fire Department families. Bob was a perfectionist, loyal to a fault, stern but loving and most of all he loved his family. He will be missed , as he was one of a kind. Men like him are a rare treasure Bob will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery with full honors from both the US Navy and the Arvada fire department.
