Richard L. Hendershot

September 25, 1948 — March 17, 2017

Richard L. Hendershot of Westminster passed away on March 17, 2017, at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was 68. He was born September 25, 1948, in Leadville, and graduated from Lake County High School in 1966. After attending Colorado Mountain College, he moved to Colorado Springs. In 1969, he and Ruth Miller of Leadville were married in Colorado Springs. He was drafted into the Army in 1970 and served in Turkey as a Communications Center Specialist. After discharge from the Army, he served in the Colorado Army National Guard for 18 months in Colorado Springs and Denver. Ruth and he moved to the Denver area in 1973 and have lived in Westminster for 17 years. Survivors include Ruth and their two sons, Russell (Cindy) Hendershot of Fruita, Douglas (Megan) Hendershot of Parker and four grandchildren. Also, his two brothers Donald (Beverly) of Westminster, Randy (Cynda) of San Antonio, Texas, and sister Starla (Tim) Quealy of Eagle survive him as well. After college in Denver and Boulder, Richard was a Senior Designer for Technetics, Inc., Ball Aerospace in Boulder and Encorp, Inc. in Windsor. After retirement he worked (played) in the crafts industry running two different picture framing shops and as Webmaster and Shipping Manager for Mizell Trains and Hobbies. His main interests included astronomy, camping, custom cars, drag racing, real/model trains, model building and playing trumpet/flugelhorn with various bands in the area. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice in lieu of flowers. Burial will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery,Denver, on Thursday March 23, 2017 at 1:15 pm, staging area "C"
