Paul V. Ambrose, 75, a long-term Leadville resident, ascended into Heaven on January 21, 2022, at Rocky Mountain Assisted Living in Wheatridge, Colorado, with his niece and nephew at his side. Paul was born on May 3, 1946 to Phillip and Stephania (“Staffie”) Ambrose, in Leadville, where he remained for 73 years. Paul (aka “Moose”) loved his family, his friends and his animals very deeply. Whether you knew him as the happy and helpful meatcutter at the local Safeway store or the jovial bartender at the R.A.M. (Raggedy Ass Miner) Bar or the Leadville Elks Club, he was always ready to greet you with a giant grin, a joke, or a helping hand. His wonderful sense of humor and his witty T-shirts always brought a smile or laugh. Paul is survived by his sister, Helen Morrison, nephew Jim (Amy) Morrison and niece Michelle (Jack) Woulfe, nephew Phillip Ambrose (Germany), great-nephews James (Nikki) Morrison, Ryan Morrison and Joseph Woulfe, great-niece Danielle (Luke) Cline, one great-great nephew, four great-great nieces, sister-in-law Barb Ambrose, and many wonderful cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Phillip “John” Ambrose. We wish to thank the wonderful staff and friends at Rocky Mountain Assisted Living, in Wheatridge, Colorado, where Paul has spent the last 2-1/2 years, as well as the caring staff of Gateway Hospice who helped him during his final months. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to a local animal shelter in Paul’s name. Cats and dogs were always welcome in Paul’s house, and he always kept cookies for them. A celebration of life for Paul (Moose) will be planned in Leadville later this spring/summer.
