August 25, 1928 - May 3, 2012 Otis S. Goode, Jr. was born August 25, 1928 in Cairo, Illinois to Helen and Otis S. Goode, Sr., and died May 3, 2012, at the age of 83, following a long cancer illness at home with his wife, Betty. In 1940 they moved to Mounds, Illinois where he graduated from high school in 1946. He then attended and graduated from Lockyear's Business College, Evansville, Indiana, where he met Betty Harris. They were married September 30, 1950 in Evansville, Indiana. In 1951, Otis was drafted into the Army and attended boot camp at Camp Breckenridge, Kentucky. After basic training, he went to Officer Candidate School at Fort Riley, Kansas. Six weeks prior to commissioning, he resigned and became Company Clerk (active duty), and remained in that capacity until honorably discharge in February of 1953. His Federal civil employment began in 1954 with the Army at Fort Riley, KS, in personnel management. In 1957, he transferred to the Topeka Air Force Depot in Topeka, KS. Then in 1958, he began working at Brookley Air Force Depot in Mobile, Alabama. All three children were born in Mobile, Alabama; Lynette in 1959, Brian in 1962, and LeAnn in 1963. In 1964, the family moved to Arvada, Colorado, and Otis began working at the Air Force Accounting and Finance Center. Several years later, Otis worked for the U.S. Bureau of Mines at the Denver Federal Center, where he retired in May of 1985. His retirement life was spent fishing, golfing, and enjoying his grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan, following the Broncos, Nuggets, and the Rockies. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Betty; daughter Lynette (Guy) Brickell, son Brian (Sandy) Goode, three granddaughters-Tracie Goode, Cassie and Tiffany Brickell, one grandson-Tyler Goode, and one great grandson-Cody Brickell Taylor, and stepmother Rosella Goode, sister Tamara Shehorn, sister-n-law Ginger Goode, Aunts-Florene Harris and Hazel Zumwalt, nieces and nephews. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be fondly remembered. Memorial services are at noon on Monday, May 7, 2012 at the Arvada United Methodist Church, 6750 Carr Street, Arvada, with a reception to follow. Private burial will be held at Ft. Logan Cemetery at 10:15 am, Tuesday, May 8, 2012. Preceding him in death are brothers-Wayne and Milford Goode, his parents, daughter LeAnn, and grandson Cody Brickell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to US Bank in memory of Otis for “The Grandchildrens' Education Fund” Account No. 203684149347 at any US Bank location.
