Nicholas Robert Livingston Horton

March 9, 2007 — May 30, 2019

Nicholas Robert Livingston Horton, of Arvada, CO, died May 30, 2019 at Lutheran Medical Center in Wheatridge, CO. He was 12. Nicholas Horton was born March 9, 2007 at Lutheran Medical Center in Wheatridge, CO to parents Margaret Putzier and Stephen Horton. Nicky was the second child in the family and quickly formed an inseparable bond with his older brother Logan. Nicky’s early years were lived in Grand County, CO, where he grew up playing in the snow in the winter and climbing rocks and racing bikes on the dirt streets of Grandby during the summer months. He loved to fish the cold waters of Grand Lake and often caught more trout than the adults. Perhaps most of all, the gregarious boy loved to chase and wrestle with his brother and his cousin Aaron, and the frolicsomeness eventually expanded to include his younger cousin Calvin. Nicky started elementary school in the mountain town and was an inquisitive student who especially liked math and really enjoyed Outdoor Lab. The family lived for a time in Amarillo, TX, which was flat and hot compared to their previous home. One happy memory was the day they improvised a mudslide in the backyard to escape the summer heat. When Nicky’s parents separated, the boys returned to Colorado with their mother, sharing a home with aunt Amanda Johns and her son Aaron. The kids attended Ashley Elementary in Denver. Younger cousin Calvin spent a good deal of time with them and the home was bursting with the sounds of rowdy boyhood. In 2016, Nicky, his mother and brother moved to Arvada, where he attended Arvada K-8 and continued to participate in Boys and Girls Club activities he had started in Denver. He loved to play video games and sports of all kinds. Nicky Horton is survived by his mother Margaret Putzier and brother Logan Horton; father Stephen Horton; aunt Amanda Johns and her son Aaron Henderson; uncle Tom Putzier and his son Calvin; uncle Jared Rojo; uncle Elijah Putzier; maternal grandmother Janeanne Porter; maternal grandfather Bill Putzier; paternal grandparents Gail and Larry Horton; and great grandparents Bonnie Porter and Jackie and Bob Putzier. He also will be missed by his many great-aunts, great-uncles and second-cousins, as well as his friends and teachers at Arvada K-8, where he finished 6th grade in May. In a final act of kindness, Nicky was an organ donor. A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on June 7th at the Arvada Covenant Church at 5555 Ward Road, Arvada, CO. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Arvada K-8 After School Program. Please send checks made out to Arvada K-8, to the attention of Kristin Alexander, 5751 Balsam St. Arvada, CO 80002 and include a memo that states either donation for the After School Program, or in memory of Nicholas Horton.
