Mike Monson

July 23, 1937 — October 14, 2021

Michael Ray Monson was born on July 23, 1937 in Trempealeau, Wisconsin and passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 14, 2021, in Lakewood, Colorado with his loving wife at his side after a courageous fight with a heart valve issue. Mike is survived by his wife, Lois of 36 years; best buddy, Zoey. Mike had two sons from a previous marriage; son, Robert and his children; son, Mark; grandson, Matthew; sister, Sandy Nowlan – Winona, Minnesota; nephew, Bill Nowlan – Honolulu, Hawaii. Within weeks of graduating from Winona High School, Mike left on a train headed for San Antonio, Texas to report for Air Force basic training. He served as an Airborne Radar Mechanic for F102s and after fulfilling his duty received an Honorable Discharge as an Airman First Class. After serving his country, Mike held positions with Mountain Bell and Martin Marietta where he was a Quality Control Inspector. He then got into the Food Service arena with Dystra Sales, Leo Foods, and Mother’s Cake and Cookies. Before finally retiring, Mike worked with Jefferson County Public Schools Transportation Department as a School Bus Driver and Trainer. Mike also worked on weekends for the luxury bus companies. He enjoyed meeting people on the tours throughout the Western United States. Mike was an avid bowler for a number of years and became a Director for the Denver Bowling Association. He liked to play golf and was an enthusiastic spectator of all sports, who enjoyed traveling and cruising. Mike will be remembered as a hardworking, warm hearted, and loving man. A true gentleman with a great sense of humor; he will be sorely missed.
