December 29, 1941 — November 13, 2021

Alex Michie Halkett passed away November 13, 2021 at Centennial Healthcare Center in Greeley, Colorado at the age of 79. He was born December 29, 1941 in Leadville, Colorado to Charles Halkett and Eva (Clune) Halkett. Michie graduated from Leadville High School in 1959. Michie was always a very hard worker starting his career delivering newspapers and known for giving dogs biscuits during his route! He worked many years for Zalar Motor Company working in almost all departments and building a successful towing and wrecker service for the dealership. He was well known for his towing and recovery skills and service throughout the years. He also worked for Barts Conoco driving tow trucks before starting his own towing and mechanical repair service (Halkett’s Towing). Michie’s greatest pride was working as a Firefighter. He started as a volunteer working into a full-time Firefighter and eventually became Fire Chief and retired as a Captain after 38 years of service. He very much enjoyed working with his fellow firefighters and volunteers throughout the years. Michie was a lifetime member of the Elks and a member of the Leadville Jaycees. He loved going to the drag races, playing golf, cross country skiing and watching football and the Colorado Rockies. Michie was always working on cars or other projects, and he could fix just about anything. He had a great big heart for helping others and was always volunteering and trying to make the world a better place. He lived 72 years in Leadville before moving to Greeley in 2014. In April, Michie and JoAnn celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. He is survived by his wife JoAnn (Mitchell) of Greeley, CO, son Michael (Kim) of Centennial, CO, daughter Mary (Jim) Branom of Greeley, CO and grandchildren Tyler Halkett, Kelsey Branom and Erik Branom. He is also survived by his brother Duane (Barbara) and nephews Dan and Kyle Halkett along with numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Eva (Clune) Halkett along with a great number of aunts and uncles. Michie loved Leadville and his family. He will be missed but will live in our hearts and never be forgotten.
