June 9, 1936 - October 15, 2011 Melvin Paul Andersen was born June 9, 1936 in Denver, Colorado to Magnus Andersen and Astrid Martinson and became known to his friends and family as "Big" Paul. Paul is preceded in death by his sister Mardell Harvey and two half brothers, Art Davis and Fred Davis. Paul's father, Magnus was killed in a construction accident when Paul was only 6 yrs old. His Mother Astrid was left to raise three children on her own. Paul's sister, Marie Williamson currently resides in Amarillo, Texas. Paul's formal education ended while he was in the eighth grade. He never really liked school and he started spending his days at the sand pits. This exposure led to his work in the construction business which lasted for over 40 yrs. His first years were spent as an Oiler and Crane Operator with Duffy Crane Service. He eventually became a business agent for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #9. At the age of 23, Paul married Mary Lou Edmondson, a single mother with two children, Cynthia and Michele. Paul and Mary Lou had two children, Sherry and "Little" Paul. He is survived by his children Cynthia, Sherry and Paul. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Michele. He is survived by eight grandchildren, Cinnamon, Darcy, Christopher, Stefan, Scott, Chanel, Samantha and Charlotte; and two great grand-children, Bond and Quaid. Paul spent much of his adult leisure time as a stock car driver and built his own race cars. He raced at Englewood Speedway, Lakeside Speedway and finished his racing career at Colorado National Speedway where he became a track champion. Services for Mr. Andersen will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at the Crossroads Church of Denver, 9725 W. 50th Avenue,Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
