Mary Virginia Ryan Nelson, age 70, died after a long struggle with Ovarian Cancer on Sunday, January 10, 2016 in Arvada, Colorado. She was born on April 12, 1945 in Cincinnati , Ohio and attended Immaculate Conception Academy in Oldenburg, Indiana graduating in 1963. She received both a teaching and nursing degree from the University of Oklahoma City and relocated to Maryland in 1970. She married Robert S. Nelson (deceased) on December 29th, 1973 and together they had a daughter, Kelly, the following year. Mary dedicated her life to helping others as an Emergency Room Nurse at University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland where her gifted nursing skills impacted countless lives. She retired as the Emergency Department Nurse Manager in 2008. Mary spent the last 30 years in Severna Park, Maryland, enjoying walks with her dogs Bean and Mickey at Kinder Park, trips to Ocean City and shopping and lunch with friends. She loved to travel and was always on the go, especially after her retirement. She had a wonderful sense of humor, quick wit and determined personality. She leaves a legacy of confidence, strength and independence. Mary will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Nelson Taylor. Her body is being cared for by Malesich and Shirey Funeral Home and Colorado Crematory. A memorial service to share memories and celebrate her life will be held at the John M Taylor Funeral Home at 147 Duke of Gloucester St, Annapolis, Maryland on April 9th 2016 at 11am.
