Mary Sophie Bretz

Mary Sophie Lozinski Bretz was born on January 4, 1933 and passed from this world on July 19, 2015. She was 82.  She was preceded in death by her parents and 9 siblings.  She was the youngest child and was born at home in Eastlake.  She grew up on the family farm in Eastlake and raised bum lambs during her junior high and high school years to make extra money. She moved to Denver to attend high school while living with her sister.  She graduated from West High School in 1951.  She met Roy (Red) Bretz and they were married on December 1, 1951 and were divorced in 1967. She worked as a farmer, clerk, receptionist, office manager and as a Records and ID tech for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.  She really enjoyed her last position with the Sheriff’s Department and took great pride in being an expert at reading fingerprints.  She retired in 1997 to help care for the youngest of her grandchildren. She is survived by 3 children – Pat, Dale and Linda, 7 grandchildren (Amy, Kyla, Ben, Dustin, Nathan, Danny and Ian) and 8 great grandchildren. Mary was also an accomplished pianist.  She loved to garden and took great pleasure in expressing her creativity through crafting.  An accomplished seamstress, she made many outfits for her children prior to becoming employed outside the home.  She loved to cook and made sure all of her loved ones had her favorite recipes.  She even shared many of those recipes with the wonderful ladies that took care of her at Oberon Assisted Living.  Additionally, she spent several years researching her families genealogy discovering an in depth family history that will be appreciated for years to come.
