Mary Lou Snyder

February 9, 1926 — August 12, 2019

Mary Lou Snyder, past resident of Cheraw and Rocky Ford, peacefully went to be with her Lord on August 12, 2019 at the age of 93. Born Mary Lou Farmwald, February 9th, 1926, she was the daughter of Henry J. and Katrina, (Katy) Miller Farmwald of Plain City, Ohio and Sarasota, Florida. Mary Lou was loved and respected by her family and communities for her beautiful smile, fine mind, medical knowledge, compassionate care for others and her faith. Always a lover of learning, she graduated Valedictorian from Plain City Ohio High School in 1944. She was the first in her family to attend college and attended Goshen College. She later pursued her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the La Junta School of Nursing. During that time she made life- long nursing friends and met her husband Glenn Snyder of Cheraw. They married December 17th, 1949 and had three daughters, Candace, Debra and Lisa, and lived in Cheraw, Rocky Ford, and later, Colorado Springs. Mary Lou’s professional work included working in Arkansas Valley hospitals and Dr. Robert Allen Shand’s private practice in La Junta. In Colorado Springs she was the Head Nurse at the historic Trianon (Colorado Springs School) Private School on the Claremont Estate, and Director of the Broadmoor Hotel Children’s Program. She and her husband Glenn were choir members and Deacons in the Caring Ministry at the prominent First Presbyterian Church. She was admired for her kindness and care for Church members and neighbors, always ready to extend a caring hand and support, especially with medical issues. Mary Lou loved her Lord and Savior, family, friends, music, and reading. Ever open-minded and curious about the world, she greatly enjoyed her travels throughout the United States, Europe, Hawaii, an Eastern and Western Canada. She is survived by her three daughters, granddaughter Brandi Prewitt and great granddaughter Alexandria Michelle Simpson and sister Alice Hoestetler. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband Glenn Snyder, her parents and brothers Marvin and Ellis Farmwald. Private Family Services will be held Wednesday, September 4, at East Holbrook Mennonite Church, Cheraw, Colorado.
