Marta C. Graffy Marta C. Graffy, 89, passed away suddenly on June 22, 2016, in Westminster, Colorado. She leaves her husband of over 70 years, George Graffy, and is survived by six children: Katalin Warmkessel (Glenn, Florida), Aniko Banyas (Pennsylvania), Susanna Rura (Raymond, Colorado), Marta Sparrow (David, Virginia), Elisabeth Graffy (Cris, Wisconsin), and George (Fran, Texas); fifteen grandchildren; and, thirteen great-grandchildren. Marta was recently predeceased by her only brother, Sandor Csallany (Agnes, Minnesota), on June 8, 2016. As a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Marta was deeply loved. Her family enjoyed her quick wit, intellectual curiosity, fondness for nature and animals, and a zest for learning and adventure. Her keen interest in mystery stories, puzzles and the world of sports has influenced multiple generations. Born and raised in Szentes, Hungary, Marta left her homeland after World War II and, with her husband,George, immigrated to the United States in 1949. They eventually settled in Levittown, Pennsylvania, where they lived for 38 years and raised their children to adulthood. Marta imbued them with a love of their Hungarian heritage and shared many cherished family traditions which have shaped their lives.Marta entered college as an adult student and graduated summa cum laude from Trenton State University while raising her children. Upon graduation, she volunteered as a coordinator for the Meals on Wheels program and served as a case worker for the U.S. Social Security Administration in Philadelphia, PA. George and Marta moved to Jensen Beach, Florida after retirement and enjoyed a relaxed lifestyle for over a decade, which they lovingly shared with their ever-growing and ever-visiting clan. In 2001, they moved to the Rocky Mountains and the wonderful Covenant Village of Colorado retirement community where Marta threw herself into the activities committee, served as a member of the building committee, participated in Bible study, and enjoyed a wide range of musical and cultural events. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Spirit of Christ Catholic Community, 7400 W. 80 th Ave., Arvada, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Covenant Village Benevolent Fund in Marta Graffy’s name.
