Margie Jo Craig

January 5, 1927 — October 27, 2020

Margie Jo Craig peacefully passed away on October 27, 2020 at the Life Care Center in Westminster, Colorado at age 93 from a long battle with Dementia. MARGIE came into this world on January 5, 1927 in Boulder, Colorado, the ninth of 10 children of Robert and Josephine Oram. Robert Radford Oram was born in Golden, Colorado. Josephine Katherine Stengel was born in Boulder, Colorado. Margie’s siblings who preceded her in passing are Mable (Peterson), Robert, Howard, Arch, Ruth (Allan), Ralph, Raymond, Lu and Barbara Jean (Lieber). Margie grew up on the northern outskirts of Boulder, attending Pleasant View Elementary and proudly graduating from Boulder High School while cleaning homes on “the hill” and working at Alba Dairy, an ice cream shop. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Sammie Craig, at a town dance. Sammie was born and raised in Sugarloaf, Colorado, a small mining town in the hills above Boulder, and had been recently discharged from the army. They were married December 29, 1944 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Margie and Sammie had three sons, Gary, Larry and Ronnie over the next 8 years and after living in several homes, moved to Westminster, Colorado in 1955. Sammie had gone to work at Swift & Co as a meat cutter and they needed to live near Denver for his work. During these family growth times, besides taking care of 3 rambunctious boys, Margie did babysitting for several families over the years before going to work as a baker at Skyline Vista Elementary where she worked until she retired. Bringing in this income helped the family to take many camping and fishing vacations and ultimately buy property on Gore Pass north of Kremmling, Colorado and build the cabin of their dreams. This cabin became the gathering place over the years for hunting and fishing for many of the family relatives and friends. Sammie passed away in 1996 after a long battle with Rhumetoid Arthritis. Margie is survived by Gary and Joyce (Erie, Co) and their 2 children (Wendi and Bryan) and 3 grandkids (Zach, Hailey and Lindsey), Larry and Candace (Johnstown, Co) and their 2 children (Corie and Ginger) and 2 grandkids (Evann and Nolan), and Ron and Laurie (Buckeye, Az) and their 2 children (Sharee and Shane). While working at Skyline Vista, Margie met Donna Nordstrom and they became very close friends for the rest of her life. Following Sammie's passing, Margie and Donna enjoyed many activities together including Red Hats Society, Westminster Senior Center, many cruises, a trips to Sweden and numerous driving trips throughout the US. After Margie moved into Life Care Center, Donna visited Margie at least weekly for long games of dominos, Kings on the Corner card games and sharing meals. A truly great friend. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, festivities to celebrate Margie’s life have been indefinitely postponed until we can all safely get together.
