March 11, 1932 - February 26, 2012 Lucy Marie Johns was born in Purdin, Texas, on March 11, 1932. Marie was the younger of two children born to Estella and Joe Payne. Marie enjoyed a thriving 35-year career at Mountain Bell/US West where she began as a janitor and was promoted to 1st Line Manager. Marie retired in 1990 but maintained very close relationships with her Qwest family and friends. Although retired, Marie continued working. She was employed with Colorado Maintenance for ten years and Hertz Rent-a-Car for seven years. As an active member of the Sunridge Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses, Marie's faith was confirmed in June 2010 when she was baptized. She dedicated many hours of spreading Jehovah's word. Marie enjoyed spending time with her family. She opened her heart and home to so many and was considered a mother to all. She truly treasured the presence of each individual she was acquainted with always offering a warm smile and loving embrace. She was always a supportive listener, offering constructive advice when asked. Her pass-times included reading, watching sports, and cooking. Her favorite things to watch were Sweet Home Alabama, the Price is Right, and Paula Dean. Marie loved the splendor of the Colorado Rocky Mountains and seized every opportunity possible to partake in its beauty. She loved to picnic by the water or relax on a boat while fishing with her children. She cherished camping in Granby, CO every summer with her great-grandson at Adams Camp where she was instrumental in spreading awareness of this extraordinary organization and the value of their work. She had a special and enduring bond with her great-grandson Jevon and was extremely influential in his growth and development from a very early age. Little Jay as she called him was the apple of her eye. Marie is preceded in death by her brother, Joe Allen Payne. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted daughter Sarah Grant-Baxter (Charles) of Aurora, CO; two granddaughters Tami Grant-Baxter Wallin (Jevon) of Aurora, CO; Tanisha Robinson (Bobby) of Aurora, CO; great grandson Jevon Wallin; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and lifelong friends.
