Lucinda Lynne (Cindy) Bruner Bryant

Lucinda Lynne (Cindy) Bruner Bryant, 75, passed away at home in Denver on October 6, 2016, after more than two years surviving cancer and relishing each day of living, loving, and learning with friends and family, under the compassionate care of The Denver Hospice. Daughter of Laura Lynne Bruner Boyle, who predeceased her, she was born in Louisville KY and spent most of her childhood in Greenfield IN. She received a BA in Russian Studies from Pembroke College in Brown University in 1962. She and her family moved to Boulder in 1976. After raising a family, working as a Talented and Gifted paraprofessional, and volunteering with Girl Scouts and other organizations, she returned to the academic world in her 50s, completing MBA and MS Health Administration degrees at the University of Colorado Denver in 1993 and a PhD in Health and Behavioral Science at the University of Colorado Denver in 1998. As a member of the faculty of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics in the University of Colorado School of Medicine, she participated in the creation of the Colorado School of Public Health in 2008 and retired in 2014 as Associate Professor in the Departments of Community & Behavioral Health and Health Systems, Management & Policy. Her primary areas of interest, both personally and professionally, have been healthy aging and dignified death. She is survived by her children, Edward (Denver) and Katherine (Medford MA); ex-husband and longtime friend Peter Bryant (Denver); nieces, cousins, other family, and many extraordinary, supportive, and loving friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Comprehensive Cancer Center at St. Joseph’s Hospital, for Infusion Center patient comforts; University of Colorado Cancer Center; or arts, music, or public health organizations of the donor’s choice.
