May 25, 1936 - May 22, 2013 Lou Wilcoxson was born on May 25, 1936 in Mason City Illinois to Luther and Ruby Wilcoxson. He attended schools in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School in 1954. He loved staying and working on his grandparents farm just outside of town and spent most of his free time at his Uncle's service station in town. It is from working on the farm and service station that he acquired his excellent mechanical ability and desire for carpentry and plumbing, along with a highly strong work ethic. To his family and friends in Illinois he is simply known as "Junior" After graduation he was drafted into the Army Corps and was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs and Camp Hale near Leadville. Being at over 10,000 feet was quite a change for a Illinois farm boy, but he grew to love it. It was during this time at Camp Hale that he met his future wife Helen. He was discharged form the Army in 1956. He immediately began working at Climax Molybdenum Mine (AMAX) near Leadville. He married his wife Helen on Feb. 23, 1957. He worked for AMAX for 37 years working his way up the company ladder holding various financial postions within the company. In 1976 he was transferred to corporate headquarters in Golden CO. and stayed there until early retirement in 1994. He loved spending his free time working on various home projects. He enjoyed working on his cars and doing home remodeling projects. You name it, he could work on it. He was a highly skilled bowler and an avid golfer. He was a member of Applewood Mens Club and Westwoods Mens Club. He was also a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge. It was during one of these home projects that he hurt is back. Unable to do the things that he loved, and not one to sit around and do nothing: he decided to return to the business world to keep his mind and spirit alive. He worked for Sirvia from 2004 until the company relocated away from Denver in 2007. He then joind TIAA-CREF in 2008 and was currently employed there until his death. He truly enjoyed working at TIAA as well as the many friendships that developed during his employment. He is survied by his wife Helen, son David, and sister Marg as well as many neices and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Bess and Patty, and twin brothers Donny and Danny. Lou passed away on May 22 2013 after a month long hospital stay. A graveside service will be held on Wed. May 29 at 1:30 at Evergreen Cemetary-Elks Section in Leadville CO. A reception will be held at the Elks lodge after the service.
