Lloyd Dewey Mcamis

April 4, 1942 — May 18, 2018

Lloyd Dewey McAmis of Arvada, Colorado Born April 4, 1942 in Belle Fourche, South Dakota to Buford and Ola McAmis Died May 18, 2018. Lloyd was service manager for Cardinal Scales managing the Colorado, Wyoming and New Mexico region for 42 years. His scale work took him to many destinations including Soldotna, Alaska and the US Navy Support Facility on the small island of Diego Garcia in the British Indian Ocean. Lloyd and Carol joined the Roam’n Homes camping club in 1970. They spent summers camping all over Colorado. Lloyd helped with Boy Scouts and relished the fact that all three boys had winning pinewood derby cars. He also loved stock car racing. Lloyd was part of the pit crew for Bob Land at Lakeside Speedway before the McAmis boys built a race car and had a family race team. He attended several local NASCAR races and was lucky enough to go to races at Texas and Atlanta. Lloyd and Carol were involved in the Lakewood Sister City exchange program with son Dan (exchange partner Joanna Zaremba Lattimore) and daughter Dalari (with the family of Tamara Collins Talbot). After his retirement in 2007 Lloyd built a shop on the property in Sand Creek with the help of Donnie, Ronnie and Dan. He spent time tinkering in the garage, cutting and splitting wood, giving the grandkids rides on the 4-wheeler, finding the best ‘greasy spoon’ restaurants and following his granddaughters’ activities including archery, volleyball and Emma’s equestrian activities. Lloyd always enjoyed the 4th of July activities in South Dakota and Wyoming which included attending the McAmis family reunion, his class reunion and watching the 4th of July parade in Belle Fourche. Lloyd also enjoyed narrow gauge railroads. He rode these trains whenever he could and enjoyed taking children and grandchildren along for the adventure. Lloyd loved to travel and always took the back roads. He and Carol traveled to Australia 3 times. During one visit Lloyd flew to Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. He did a walking tour around the famous Ayers Rock. Lloyd is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol; sons, Donnie (Debby), Ronnie (Jennie), Dan, and daughter Dalari (Sean); grandchildren, Karisa, Kelley, Emma, Ethan and Cullen. Lloyd was preceded in death by his father, mother and younger brother, Keith. Lloyd chose to be cremated and have his ashes spread on Red Mountain Pass in southern Colorado. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Arbor House at Maple Grove Park, 14600 West 32nd Avenue, Golden from 5 to 9pm. In lieu of flowers please donate to the American Cancer Society in Lloyd’s name. American Cancer Society, P O Box 42040, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
