Lester Howard Baker

March 15, 1925 — October 28, 2024

Colorado

Lester “Red” Baker, 99, passed away on October 28, 2024. Born in Kansas on March 15, 1925, he moved to Colorado with his parents and siblings by the time he was 5. He grew up in Denver and enlisted in the Navy in 1943, where he proudly served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. After serving in the Navy, Lester went on to work as a heavy equipment operator for Lowry Airforce Base in Denver Colorado. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and playing card games in his spare time. Lester retired from Lowry in 1985 and moved to Maybell Colorado with his wife Jeanne White Baker where they enjoyed several years together enjoying the quiet life and traveling, until she passed away. He married Wilma Taylor Baker and moved to Craig Colorado. Lester enjoyed all things Denver Broncos; he would watch every game with Wilma. When Wilma passed away in 2013, Lester moved to Denver to be near his daughter Nancy and his son Brad. While he was in Denver he adopted his best little friend Rusty (a chihuahua) and they were inseparable.

Red had a very unique sense of humor that he passed along to his kids. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents Lester P and Ada Baker, siblings Katherine, John, Anna, Albert and Charles, and his wives Jeanne White Baker, Wilma Taylor Baker and ex-wife Velma Contos. He is survived by his children and their spouses: Wilbert Baker (Gloria), Thomas Baker (Susan), Bradley Baker (Janet), Nancy Linder (Jeff), and stepson Steve Baker (Patty), brother Clyde Baker and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
