Leonard Orville Anderson

Leonard O. Anderson was born June 15, 1921 in Denver, Colorado and passed away on February 16, 2016 at the age of 94 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. He was the son of German and Selma Anderson and grew up in Denver. He graduated from South High School and the University of Denver. Leonard served as a LTJG and navigator in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married his wife of 72 years, Amanda, in 1944. He worked side by side with her to establish Anderson Building Company, a commercial construction company, which provided for him and his family for most of his life. He is survived by his wife, Amanda; his son Gary Anderson (wife Virginia); his son Leland Anderson (wife Susan); his grandchildren, Coleen Ho (husband Long), Shannon Ellenburger (husband Dennis), Maxwell Anderson (wife Jessica) and Anna Anderson, as well as by three great-grandchildren, Carolina, Grace, and Samuel Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved sister Marjorie Helander (husband Paul). Leonard faithfully served his church, Arvada Covenant Church, as chairman as well as in other leadership positions. He also had the honor to serve on the boards of North Park University, Youth for Christ, and Covenant Heights Bible Camp. He built the Arvada Covenant Church Sanctuary at 69th and Carr and constructed many commercial buildings and facilities in the Denver area. He loved music, his family, and his Lord. He was the big heart at the center of his family and was loved by so many for his sense of humor, his laughter, his insistence on holding the last note of a song a beat or two longer than anyone else, and his overwhelming generosity and gratitude for all things God provided to him. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016, 1:30 PM, at the Arvada Covenant Church, 5555 Ward Road, Arvada, Colorado, followed by refreshments.
