LEE NORLAND died in Denver, Colorado, on February 25, 2015, after a valiant battle with Parkinson’s. He was born to Roger S. and Betty L. Norland on January 9, 1944 in Ontario, Oregon. Lee was the oldest of three boys. His two younger brothers, Christopher and Eric, preceded him in death a number of years ago. Lee graduated from Caldwell High School, Caldwell, Idaho, in 1962. There he played football and basketball. Lee married his high school sweetheart, Marjean Banks, on January 31, 1965. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past January. He attended Idaho State University and then transferred to the College of Idaho receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in 1967. Lee and Marjean moved to Riverside, California, where Lee received his Ph.D degree in 1972 at the University of California, Riverside. Lee’s career in petroleum and nuclear environmental science took him to Bakersfield, California; Idaho Falls, Idaho, and eventually to Denver, Colorado. Lee and Marjean have two children, Khil L. Norland and Capt. Aemee Parrott (USMC) and grandson, Michael P. Parrott. Lee was exceptionally proud of his two children and his grandson. Lee loved the wilderness environment and was a true environmentalist. Lee was a man of great intelligence but few words. He loved to zig you with his one liners. He was a true friend to those he went to school and worked with. Up until close to the end of his life, he loved to play racquetball and workout. He was a great provider for his family. He took care of his mom and dad in their later years, through a number of health issues up until their deaths. He truly loved and was truly loved by the Banks family; Chuck and Betty and their two sons, Tom and Bob and their families. Lee was an avid sports fan, Lee will be missed greatly by his family and friends for his wisdom, the twinkle in his eye, his relaxed nature and his love of life but particularly and simply for the way he loved. Near the end Lee accepted the Lord Jesus to the comfort of his wife and family. This provided him and his family a peace at the end and a confidence of his eternal reward in heaven. Marjean and all of Lee’s family thank you for your prayers, kindness, thoughts and support. There will be a memorial gathering in Arvada, Colorado at the Duncan YMCA on Sunday, April 12th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A second Memorial will be in the Eagle/Boise (more details later) on July 18, 2015.
