It is with deep sadness that the family of Kristian Anthony Martinez Sr., 44, announce his sudden passing on October 11, 2017 at his home in Las Animas County. Kristian was born on July 2, 1973 in Denver, Colorado. He was raised in Denver, Colorado and lived in Thornton, Colorado before his move to his grandparents’ home in Resago, Colorado a few years ago. Kris attended Primero High School, West High School, Red Rocks Community College, and the University of Colorado. Kris was an entrepreneur and started many businesses in his short life. He loved restoring and selling cars, motorcycles and trucks. Kris collected sports cards, model cars, and sports paraphernalia. Kris was known for his generosity. He loved to cook since he was young and continued to be a great host to family and friends. Everyone loved his funny jokes and ability to give everyone a great nickname or call them names of endearment. Kris enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting and riding ATV’s with his cousin Eric. Above all, Kris loved his children more than they will ever know. He loved his family and his friends and often told them so. Kristian known as “Rok” “Rokhead” is the beloved son of Jose P. and Dolores M. Martinez; loving father of Zandra Kristine, Kristian Jr., Devan M. Martinez and Alicia Lamorie. Step-brother of Joseph A. (Crystal) Martinez. Nephew of James F. Montoya, Christine Maldonado, Theresa and (Cruz) Longoria, Tim (Linda) Montoya, Anita Martinez, Bonita Martinez and great uncle Ambrose Lujan. Kristian is survived by numerous cousins, nephews and nieces, numerous close friends; and his little buddy his cat Sylvester. Kristian is preceded in death by his grandparents John D. and Patsy Montoya and Jose M. and Delfina Martinez; uncles Ted Martinez, Donald Montoya, Hilbert Martinez, Dimitri Nikolov; aunts Elaine Nikolov and Sharon Montoya; and cousin, Paula Jane Martinez “Paula Kamala” whom he loved dearly. Pallbearers will be Gregory Medina, Ernesto Martinez, Ken Longoria, Erik Montoya, Kristian A. Martinez Jr., and Shon Mondragon. The family invites all relatives and friends of Kris to a celebration of his life on Friday, October 20, 2017, at Presentation of Our Lady Catholic Church, 623 Julian St., Denver, Colorado; viewing 9:00 a.m., Rosary at 9:30 a.m. lead by Kris’ cousin Brother Harry Gonzales, followed by a Mass at 10:00 a.m. A reception will be held at the Skyline Building, 158 S. Federal Blvd., Denver, Colorado starting at noon. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Kristian A. Martinez Legal Defense Fund c/o Dolores M. Martinez.
