On January 2, 2019, a warm, sunny afternoon, Kathy Hartung gently slipped away from this earth. She now takes her place among the infinite stars of the universe. Kathy put up a dignified, quiet struggle over a number of years before succumbing to a cruel, ugly disease which gradually robbed her of her health at the young age of 58. Before she died, however, Kathy packed years of living into her life. Other than a brief 4 years living in Montana, Kathy was a life long resident of Colorado, attending Arvada West high school and Colorado State University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and a Master’s degree in Economics. Kathy was a statistician employed by the State of Montana and, after returning to Colorado, was employed by the US Small Business Administration. Travel was one of her lifelong passions and included treks to Peru, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Honduras in Central and South America and France, Italy, Germany, Poland, and Hungary in Europe. A lifelong reader, Kathy loved reading about exotic lands and history. Her other interests included her companion kittycats, gardening, socializing with friends, and dining with her husband, Dennis at their favorite restaurant, Mamma Sanninos. Kathy’s last few years were spent at a care center, Almost Like Home, where wonderful people lovingly cared for her. Her husband is eternally grateful for the kindness and attention shown Kathy during her final years. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Kay and Lester and her brother and sister, Frank and Barbara. Kathy is survived by a niece, Samantha and a nephew, Cody, many cousins and friends, her three companion kittycats, and her husband, Dennis Cleary. There will be a celebration of life February 11 beginning at 12:00 noon at the Indian Tree Golf Course reception hall, 7555 Wadsworth Blvd., Arvada. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that a donation be made to the sender’s favorite animal shelter, the Huntington’s Disease Society of Colorado, or if you would like, plant a flower in your garden as a remembrance of Kathy.
