Joyce Anne Gledhill

Joyce Anne Gledhill (Brown) passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, January 17, 2017 surrounded by her family in Arvada, Colorado. Joyce was an avid adventurer, and traveler who loved her family and friends with abandon and who had a passion for Nursing. Joyce successfully completed two full time careers in her lifetime. She was a stay at home mother to her two children, David Wheeler Gledhill, Jr. and Page Stevens Bolin (Gledhill). When her kids were older, she earned her B.S.N. in Nursing, graduating with the first graduating class of the George Mason University School of Nursing in 1976. A talented and artistic person, she has the distinction of being the designer of the GMU School of Nursing pin every student receives upon graduation. She became an Orthopedic Nurse working for the INOVA Health Care System working at Commonwealth Hospital in Fairfax City, VA and later at the Fair Oaks Hospital. Joyce went on to earn an M.S.N. from GMU subsequently creating and running the Chronic Pain Management Unit at Fair Oaks Hospital for many years. After retiring from INOVA Joyce worked briefly as an occupational nurse for the Federal Government. In 2003 Joyce decided to relocate to Arvada, Colorado to be closer to her daughter and grand children working an additional eight years part-time for Denver Health before becoming a full-time retiree. Never one to sit around, Joyce enjoyed travelling, playing pickleball, and was active in the local Red Hat Society. She loved spending time with friends, doting on her dog(s) and planning her next adventures. Joyce is survived by her brother Col. James W. Brown, III, (USAF retired) of Texas, her son David and daughter-in-law Brenda of Locust Grove, VA, daughter Page and son-in-law Rich of Arvada, CO, and (3) beautiful grandchildren, Rebecca & Ian Bolin of Arvada and Jacqueline Orebaugh of Fairfax, VA. A celebration of life will be held for Joyce at 10:00am on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Cavalry Episcopal Church, 1320 Arapahoe Street, Golden, CO 80401. A reception will immediately follow at the church. The service will be conducted in the historic old chapel located at the corner of 13th & Arapahoe.
