John Oliver Slocum, 56, of Denver, Colorado, passed away on October 17, 2019. John was born in Birmingham, Michigan on August 8, 1963. He graduated from Groves High School in Birmingham, Michigan and went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree from Albion College in Albion, Michigan. John captained his high school swim team and was also a member of his college swim team. His swimming accomplishments led to his love of being near or in the water his entire adult life. He had a life long love of travel which led him to work in the travel industry, most recently as a partner at Exito Travel. John traveled the world fascinated by other cultures and cuisines. While John spent most of his adult life in Philadelphia, he and his wife, Michelle, moved to Denver in 2013. John was an avid hockey fan and, despite his move to Denver, John maintained his allegiance to the Philadelphia Flyers. John also developed a fondness for cats and he will be missed by his Russian Blue, Gustav. John was an avid movie goer – as much to see the film as to eat the theater popcorn! He was always known for his love of life and great sense of humor. He will be missed by all who came to know him. John is lovingly remembered by his wife, Michelle Walser; brother, Michael (Chaya) of New York; sister, Cynthia (Kevin) Emmerich of Maryland; stepmother, Patricia of Michigan; nieces, nephews, and a host of other family members and long time friends.
