June 17, 1947 - June 9, 2014 John James “Jack” Stewart June 17, 1947 - June 9, 2014 66. Died suddenly, approximately June 6, at home. Jack was born in Chicago, Illinois. He obtained an engineering degree from Purdue University. Then he worked 8 years as an engineer at McDonnell-Douglas in St. Louis, MO, on projects like the F-15 and DC-10 aircraft. In 1971 he was introduced to skiing at a small resort on the banks of the Mississippi. It wasn't long before he found the mountains of Colorado. He moved to Colorado in 1977 to indulge his love of skiing, and found employment at Martin Marietta, where he could also pursue a fascination with space. He retired after 20+ years supporting the Titan Missile program, then worked as a consultant for Analex Corporation, sharing his experience to support ongoing missile launches At various times Jack was a hiker, a softball player, a canoeist, a pilot, a diver, and a motorcyclist. For quite a few years he struggled with diabetes and its complications. Still, he travelled widely. He visited Hawaii often. He made several trips to Alaska, New Zealand and Australia, as well as forays to Europe, China, the Virgin Islands, New England and the San Juan Islands, and … He had a lively curiosity that allowed him to find something of interest everywhere he went. In the South he explored Civil War battlefields. In Hawaii he was an avid whale watcher. Jack was a kind, considerate and generous person who will be deeply and sincerely missed by his friends and family. He is survived by his sister, Sandy Stewart, cousins, and many friends from all phases of his life. A Memorial service in Denver will be held on July 13th 2:30-5:30 PM at the Hyatt House Denver Tech Center, 9280 E. Costilla Ave, Englewood, CO . Refreshments will be served afterwards.
