Janice Elaine Settlemyre, 79, passed away May 26, 2021, at The Gardens of St. Elizabeth in Denver, Colorado. Janice was born in Springfield, Ohio, to Loyd and Vergie Crabtree. She and her sister Miriam enjoyed staying in touch and talked for many hours throughout their lives. She attended Anderson University to study music and met Tom Settlemyre. They married in 1964 and cherished 56 years together. Janice held positions at Christian Brotherhood Hour, Warner Press, Good Samaritan Hospital, and Warner Pacific University. She also served in various ministry roles including Chair of Indiana South Women of the Church of God (WCG) and served on the National WCG Board. Music was always a passion, and Janice could burst into song for any occasion. She was a soloist and pianist for many years. The many stories about her Trio Tour days travelling the US, while at Anderson University, have echoed through the family for years. Janice will be remembered for her generous nature, musical talents, and her gracious hospitality, always making others feel special. She was your go-to for a themed banquet! There are binders of ideas and plans to prove it. Christmas was her favorite. Her celebrations were full of laughter, beautiful food, and fabulous experiences. She got rave reviews, and it wasn’t a surprise that people looked forward to the occasions. Janice was a wonderful ministry partner and used her many musical and hospitality gifts to encourage and bless others. Janice and Tom served many churches on their journey together: Northwestern Church of God, Detroit, MI; Stone Lake Church of God, Middlebury, IN; South Meridian Church of God, Anderson, IN; 4th Avenue Church of God, Lake Charles, LA; First Church of God, Vincennes, IN; Mt. Scott Church of God, Portland, OR; West Court Street Church of God, Flint, MI; and in retirement attended Parkgate Community Church, Pasadena, TX. Janice dearly loved her family and friends. She instilled a creative voice in her children and loved her granddaughter whole heartedly. In retirement, Janice and Tom moved to League City, Texas, to care for her parents, then headed to Colorado. Janice was always thoughtful of important details. You could always see a welcoming pineapple, a sign of hospitality, as you entered her home. Also, we can safely state that there is not another person with a greater love of watermelon. Janice is survived by the love of her life, Tom Settlemyre who resides in Denver, Colorado. Her daughter Karla Ferguson and her husband Jim of Denver, Colorado. Her son Kevin Settlemyre, his wife Suzanna and their daughter Lucia of Arlington, Massachusetts. Her loving sister, Miriam Barber of Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
