James John Lucas

December 29, 1927 — July 26, 2016

James John Lucas "Jim" 88 of Barnes, Wisconsin passed away in Arvada, CO on July 26, 2016 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He is survived by his loving wife, Adeline, daughter Lori, sister Ruth and several nieces and nephews. Jim was born December 29, 1927 in Bessemer, Michigan to John and Magdaline (Ivsic) Lucas. He was enlisted in the United States Army on April 17, 1946 and proudly served his country. He served in the Pacific Theater with the occupation forces in Japan. Jim attended the University of Wisconsin, Superior, where he received his Bachelor's Degree in 1951. He taught social studies at Northwestern High School in Maple, Wisconsin and Superior Central High School. Jim and Adeline were married August 8, 1953 in Superior, Wisconsin, and taught in the local school district. In 1958 they moved to Europe and lived in Verdun, France where Jim taught and coached basketball and football. They also lived in Hanau and Frankfurt Germany, where Jim became an Assistant Principal. They spent 5 years overseas teaching and traveling before returning to the United States. Their daughter, Lori, was born in 1962 in Germany. Jim earned his Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin, Superior in 1963. In 1965, Jim relocated his family to Bloomington, Minnesota, where he taught social studies at Portland and Penn Junior High Schools. He became an assistant principal and transferred to Kennedy High School in 1979. He retired in 1989 and spent summers at his lake home in Barnes, Wisconsin where he enjoyed fishing and entertaining family and friends. Every weekend was filled with the laughter and joy of so many guests. Winters were spent in Lantana, Florida where he enjoyed the warm, sunny weather. Jim was loved by everyone who knew him. He was a kind, gentle, caring man who valued spending time with his family and friends. He was a very proud man with a strong Catholic faith who always had encouraging words for everyone he encountered. He was extremely generous, and was always willing to help someone in need. He had a great compassion for life, his family and God. ~ Whoever eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, has eternal life; and I will raise him on the last day ~ John 6:54.
