James "Jim" J. Mccoskey Ii

James J. McCoskey II (Jim) was born in Sullivan, Indiana on December 18, 1941 to James J. and Mary J. (Wells) McCoskey. Jim’s journey was peacefully finished in the early morning of January 17, 2019 after being bed-ridden for 18 months. Many thanks and accolades to the Denver Hospice support team and to the CNA’s that came every morning to assist with his care. Due to this amazing support team that became friends, Jim was able to comfortably endure his final journey. Jim grew up in Sullivan, Indiana and then along with his parents, sister and brother they moved to Indianapolis, Frankfort and then to Richmond, Indiana. After Jim graduated from Richmond High School, he attended Purdue University in Fort Wayne, Indiana where he studied engineering. In February 1961, Jim enlisted into the United States Air Force. After basic training he was assigned to Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado. During his service there he spent time as an Electronic Instructor before being selected as one of only 20 men to a ‘highly’ Top-Secret duty. To this day, the field and work these 20 men performed is still classified. When stationed in Denver, Colorado Jim met his future wife while attending Immanuel Baptist Church. Jim married Sydne K. Folsom on April 7, 1963. After serving four years in the United States Air Force, Jim moved his new family to Indiana, New York, Massachusetts and then to Texas working for companies in the engineering field. When Martin Marietta Company recruited Jim in 1972, they moved him and his family to Denver to design the cameras for the Mars Lander. After working for Martin Marietta, he worked for several other highly technical companies in the Denver area. Jim and the family became involved in the Dog-Show World in 1970 with a Standard Poodle. This Standard Poodle was the beginning of 40 years of exhibiting dogs in conformation, obedience, tracking, herding, agility and judging. Jim became a judge for Australian Shepherds in 1973 and judged for over 35 years. This ability for dogs was passed on to his daughter who handled dogs for people for 25+ years before becoming an AKC, UKC, ASCA judge. Jim and his family were members of many dog clubs and organizations to include Wichita Falls Kennel Club, High County Kennel Club (now known as Evergreen Kennel Club), Mountain States Dog Training Club, Rampart Range Terrier Club, Bedlington Terrier Club of American, Bloodhound Club of American, Columbine State Poodle Club, Poodle Club of America, Colorado Dog Fanciers Association, and the Colorado Dog Search and Rescue team. Jim was always and advocate for dogs and for the dog and owner relationship. To add to his resume, he also taught Dog Obedience classes for High County Kennel Club and for Jefferson County Adult Education. Along this busy path, and later in Jim’s life, the family became involved in the sport of Geocaching. He was a founding member of the Geocaching Colorado club and participated in too many functions and events to count. Jim had a way with people and was liked by all. During these functions, kids and adults flocked to his jovial, infectious and happy personality. Jim loved to tease others and his dry sense of humor never failed to entertain. This personality, humor and heart is what will be treasured and missed by all who knew him. Never wanting to be bored, and loving to help others, Jim used his vast knowledge of computers to help friends and family. He would help others with about any computer problem, big or small. One of his passions was to help people and companies stay up and running. Jim had a long love for computers and got his first home computer in 1979. In the latter part of Jim’s life, he spent 10 years volunteering for Fort Logan National Cemetery by assisting visitors in the Personal Information Center. He truly enjoyed giving back to people and to the community. Jim is survived by his wife Sydne K. (Folsom) McCoskey, son Joseph (Joe) W. McCoskey, daughter Sharon K. (McCoskey) Sparks, son-in law Leslie (Les) Sparks, two granddaughters, a sister, and many others. Memorial donations can be made to Camp IdRaHaJe (www.idrahaje.org) in memory of James J. McCoskey II. These donations will help with the youth summer camp programs. Jim had a saying that he always used when ending his visits with the CNA’s. “God’s Will be Done” Please Don’t Cry for me Please don’t cry for me. I am okay. For the Angels were here to welcome me home. Please don’t cry for me, for I have no fear. I am free of all my pain, and Jesus has taken way my tears. Please don’t cry for me, it was just my time, But I will see you someday on the other side. Please don’t cry for me. For this is not the end. I will be joyfully waiting for you until we meet again.
