James H Robinson

March 2, 1930 — September 10, 2016

Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel (II Timothy 1:10). Let us remember with thanksgiving what God has done through His servant Jim Robinson. James Howard Robinson was given life by his Creator and was born on March 2, 1930, the son of John Wesley Robinson and Sophia Ida Emmilie (nee Sylwester) Robinson, and as an infant he received the Sacrament of Holy Baptism and became a child of God. Jim was the fifth of eight children. In 1943, Jim publicly confessed faith in Christ Jesus, was confirmed and received the precious gift of the Lord's life-giving body and blood then and throughout his earthly pilgrimage. After graduating from Concordia Teachers College, Seward, NE, and teaching briefly in two Lutheran schools, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea. A year after discharge, on August 17, 1958, he was joined to Rowena Darline Honig in Holy Matrimony. This year they celebrated 58 years as husband and wife. Jim and Darline were blessed with the gift of two children, Kevin and Laurie. Throughout their married life Jim served the Lord in church work: as a Lutheran teacher in Salem Lutheran Church, Forest Green, MO and Saint Peter Lutheran Church, Deshler, NE; and as a Director of Christian Education, Music and Youth at Peace Lutheran Church, Arvada, CO for 22 years. His joy was working with adults, youth, and children in Sunday school, Midweek school, and VBS; training Sunday school teachers; and working with pastors, choir directors and organists in coordinating music for worship, including children’s music, and in playing the organ. In retirement, Jim enjoyed serving Christ our Redeemer, Bennett in Christian education and music, and organist at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Commerce City. Jim was privileged to have served his Lord for 60 years in church work, which the saints at Our Savior, Commerce City acknowledged in 2011. Jim and Darline authored five books, published by Concordia Publishing House, assisting pastors and teachers in classrooms, worship, and visual aids. Jim also wrote three books that were published by Northwestern Publishing House. On September 10, 2016, Jim, at the age of 86 years, peacefully fell asleep in Jesus, to await the resurrection of the dead. He was preceded in death by his father John, mother, Sophia, sisters: Lois and Gladys. Surviving family are siblings, Will (and wife Arline), Grace, Ellen, Luther (and wife Shirley), and Wanda (husband Larry, also Darline’s brother). Jim’s wife, Darline, and their son Kevin, live in Arvada. Their daughter Laurie, son-in-law Marty, and granddaughter, Abigail, live in Poplar Bluff, MO. The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord (Job 1:21). We give thanks to God our Father through Jesus Christ, our Lord, for our brother, James Howard Robinson. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Peace Lutheran Church, 5675 Field Street, Arvada, CO, preceded by a visitation at 2:15 p.m. Internment will be at Ft. Logan Military Cemetery, Staging Area A, 2 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2016. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the Peace Lutheran Church Scholarship Fund to assist students going into full-time church work with their education expenses at Concordia Lutheran colleges.
