Ida Emilie Bell Wells

Ida Emilie Bell Wells passed away peacefully in Denver, Colorado July 27, 2024 in the presence of her son and daughter-in-law Douglas and Ann Wells. She is also survived by her other sons David and William who each had visited her in the days before her passing.

Born in Webster Groves, St. Louis, Missouri on December 17, 1924, she was the only living child of Ida Volinda Grant and William Helfenstein Bell. Emilie had a love of animals and ongoing interest in adult education and self-improvement. She had an innocence of spirit and had the wonderful ability to laugh at herself. Emilie would tell you her sons were the meaning of her life. She steadfastly supported them in all their many, varied interests as they grew through boyhood, and encouraged them in their pathways as adults.

Emilie was married to Dr. Gerald Charles Wells for 65 years. They moved to Denver in 1952 and established a home for their new family. They enjoyed cooking together and hosting gatherings of their interesting, creative friends.

In her later years, she enjoyed the friendship of fellow church members of Tri-City Baptist as well as other residents at Covenant Village Senior Care Community.
