Helen Leanna Brekke

Helen Klammer Brekke passed away at home June 27 after numerous health ailments caused her to go home to our Lord. Helen was born Nov 17, 1931 in St James, MN, where she attended Elementary and High School. She studied at the Un of MN before transferring to The University of CO earning a BA in Communications. After graduation, she worked for the Red Cross at Fitzsimmons where she met her husband Warren. They lived most of their married lives in Pueblo, Co until Warren’s death in 1992. They had 3 children – Paul, Jennifer, and John who all live in CO. After the kids were all in school, she went back to college earning her teaching certificate. She worked many years as an elementary teacher before retiring from the Pueblo County School District Helen moved to Denver and has been inseparable from her sister, Gerri, sharing their Westminster house for the last 12 years. She continued teaching in Lutheran schools for another 12 years before retiring again. She remained very active until recently, reading, “thrifting,” scrap booking, baking, and spending as much time as possible with her family. Helen is survived by her children, sister, 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
