Helen Gloria Morrison

Helen G. Morrison, 86, a long-term Leadville resident, ascended into Heaven on November 3, 2022, at The Village at Belmar Assisted Living Community in Lakewood, Colorado, with her family and caregivers at her side.

Helen was born on June 5, 1936, to Phillip and Stephania (“Staffie”) Ambrose, in Leadville, where she remained for nearly 85 years. Helen graduated from Leadville High School in 1954 and then attended a secretarial/trade school in Omaha Nebraska. She then went to work for the local phone company, prior to marrying her childhood sweetheart and becoming a dedicated wife and mother. Throughout her life, Helen also became an avid gardener, an accomplished crochet artist, a wonderful cook and a well-known baker in the community. Individuals walking by her house would often stop to admire and ask about her flowers, and her beautiful crochet pieces were displayed throughout her home. At Christmas and Easter, Helen baked Potica, an Austrian/Yugoslavian tradition, for many individuals in the community, and her pies, cookies and cakes were delicious works of art.

Helen is survived by her son, Jim (Amy) Morrison and daughter Michelle (Jack) Woulfe, grandsons James (Nikki) and Ryan Morrison and Joseph Woulfe, granddaughter Danielle (Luke) Cline, great-grandson Jamie Morrison, great-granddaughters Eleanor Morrison and Lana, Zena, and Nora Cline, nephew Phillip Ambrose (Germany), sister-in-law Barb Ambrose, and many wonderful cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Morrison, her parents, and her brothers, Phillip “John” and Paul Ambrose.

We want to thank the wonderful staff and friends at The Village at Belmar Assisted Living Community in Lakewood, Colorado, where Helen has spent the last 1-1/2 years, as well as the caring staff of Lumicare Hospice who helped her during her final months.

A celebration of life for Helen is planned for November 26, 2022, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary and Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Leadville, CO, beginning at 10:00am, with interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. A reception will follow at the residence of her son and daughter-in-law.
