Gordon Lee Benz, 89, passed away October 21, 2019 at Arbor View Nursing Home, Arvada, CO. He was born October 8, 1930 in Beulah, ND to John and Mary (Maedche) Benz. He attended country schools and graduated from Hazen High School in 1949. While in school, he enjoyed trapping, fishing, hunting, playing football and developed a love of all things outdoors which he shared with his family and friends. Gordon led a varied professional life, working hard at everything he did. He farmed and ranched at Hazen, Ft. Clark and Bottineau, ND. He drilled artesian wells in the Dakotas, Wyoming and Montana then began a long career in construction. Benz Construction built many homes, apartment and commercial buildings throughout North Dakota and the front range of Colorado. He met his soul mate Gayle Joanne Wiseman and they married September 15, 1957 at Fargo, ND. They celebrated 60 yrs together before her death on April 8, 2018. Together they raised five children. He loved time spent in a boat, flushing pheasants, flea markets, gun shows, raising flowers and was delighted by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He thought his family was his greatest achievement. Gordon is survived by his children: Mary Benz of Detroit Lakes, MN, Sue (Hal) Teiken of Frazee, MN, Tom (Julie) Benz of Denver, CO, Carrie (Jason) Zboralski of Centennial, CO; grandchildren Sara (Brian) McKay, Mike (Hilary) Teiken, Richard McGuire, Josh (Savannah) Benz; Halley (Victor) Sotelo, Mikayla Benz; Abbie Zboralski; great-grandchildren Knox and Aspen McKay and Benz Teiken; sister-in-law Donna Benz and many nieces and nephews. Gordon was preceded in death by his wife Gayle, son Marshall and his brothers Lyle, John Jr, Milton Benz and sisters Marville Foss and Myrtle Townsend. We will honor Gordon’s life with a service at St. Paul’s Community Church, 8001 W 23rd Ave in Lakewood, CO, on Saturday, November 16th, at 10 A.M.
