Glen "Rohn" Herrick

October 17, 1935 — June 25, 2016

Glen “Rohn” Herrick passed away on June 25, 2016, in Wheat Ridge, CO and is surely blazing ski trails in heaven. A celebration of his life will be held 4:00 PM on Friday, July 22, 2016, at Calvary Episcopal Church, 1320 Arapahoe St., Golden CO. with Father Tim Phenna officiating. A reception will follow at the church with music provided by “Nick and Slick.” It will be the party Rohn wanted. Rohn was born on October 17, 1935 in Pueblo, CO to Glenn and Ivy Rohn Herrick. The family moved to Leadville, CO, in 1937. Rohn’s great grandparents had homesteaded Leadville from Switzerland in 1879. His love of the Colorado Mountains and Colorado History continued his entire life. Rohn graduated from Lake County High School in Leadville. He participated in basketball, track and exceled on the ski team. He also served as Student Body President. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Regis University where he continued to compete in skiing and was rated as one of the top 10 skiers in the United States by FIS. He later earned his Master’s Degree in Guidance Counseling from University of Northern Colorado. He was employed by Westminster Schools for 35 years, first as a math and science teacher and then as a middle school counselor. Rohn is remembered as an educator who cared deeply for his students, and demonstrated by example, kindness and compassion. He served as chairman of the district counselors. Rohn devoted his life to teaching and helping others. He served as Adams County Red Cross Disaster Chairman, was a member of Search and Rescue teams, was on Ski Patrol, and was a Ski Instructor. He served as a Boy Scout Leader and Swimming Coach. He shared his love of the outdoors with many people, taking them hiking, backpacking, 4 wheel driving and gold panning. He was the neighbor who always helped with projects, loaned his tools and was fondly named the “Gentle Giant.” He is survived by his wife Connie Hirz Herrick, his daughters, Gretchen, (Dave), Rauch, Mikki (Douglas) Stier, Heidi Strong and Heather, (Sean) Hannaway, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by two “special daughters, “ Gail Burgess Bone and Sue Kranzler Akers , his brother Dennis Herrick , his sister in law, Betty Jean Herrick, three nephews, one niece, two great nephews and one great niece. He was preceded in death by a nephew and his parents. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Sky High Hope Camp, a camp for children with cancer and their siblings.
