Glen Arthur Hellenga

November 12, 1929 — June 10, 2017

Lt. Col. Glen Arthur Hellenga was born November 12, 1929 to Fedde (Ferry) Hellenga and Ardell M Wearne in Seattle, Washington. He and his one older brother, Gordon, and 2 younger brothers, Gerald and Gail, grew up amid acres of strawberries in the “great northwest.” His love of cattle led him to major in Animal Sciences through the ROTC at Washington State University, where he graduated in 1952. He was commissioned in the United States Air Force at March AFB, California. Upon completion of pilot training, he flew F-84 and RF-4 aircraft. Glen was a pilot and reconnaissance officer in Vietnam. He served his country for 28 years before retiring from Bergstrom AFB in Austin, Texas. After retiring from the military, Glen enjoyed his dream of becoming a gentleman rancher in Liberty Hill, Texas, until truly retiring and moving to Arvada, Colorado. Glen was a man for others as he dedicated much of his time to Lions Club and Sertoma service organizations. He always looked on the bright side of life and saw the best in everyone he encountered. His sense of humor and always cheerful disposition will be sorely missed! He is survived by his wife, Lois May Owens, as well as their 3 children: Gary Hellenga (spouse: Lynn), Sherry Fuller (spouse: Bob), and Lori Toole (spouse: Tracy). Glen and Lois have 9 grandchildren: Alex, Braeden, Genevieve, Zachary, Benjamin, Kelsie, Marissa, Tyler, and Trisha. Memorials may be contributed in his honor to the Alzheimer Association. Graveside Services will be held at Ft. Logan National Cemetery Denver Colorado Monday, June 19, 2017 @ 10:15am
