February 15, 1925 - May 16, 2013 George Stanley Miller, born Feb. 15, 1925 to George and Opal Miller. He was born in Grandpa Andy Miller's home in Ellis, KS. Several weeks later he moved several blocks to his home where he grew up across from Ellis High School. He had one sister, Margaret. He attended Ellis schools, suffered through the dirt storms of the 1930's and remembers his mother putting wet rags over his face at nights. He graduated from Ellis High School in 1943. Previous to graduating he signed up for the Army Air Corps so he could stay in school and graduate with his class. After graduation he left for service with the Eighth Air Force. He was stationed in England after training. He flew missions over Germany, France and Checz, with a last mission over Holland for a food drop. He was home in Ellis on leave when WWII ended. Had the war not ended, he would have been sent to fight the Japanese. Instead, he enrolled in Kansas State College (now KSU) in August, 1947. There he met and married Vesta Colburn, also a KSC. Both graduated in May, 1949, Stan with a business Administration degree and a major in accounting. Later he earned his CPA certificate. Following graduation they moved to Dodge City, KS where he worked for a CPA firm and later with Western Light and Telephone Co. In December, 1956, the family now including Cindy and Shelley moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. There Stan worked for the Bureau of Reclamation, and they made their home in nearby Bountiful, Utah. In July, 1960 he transferred to the Bureau of Reclamation Office at the Denver Federal Center and they moved to their present home in Arvada, CO. Greg was born three weeks after their move, then Judy joined the family in 1966. Stan was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church, first in Ellis, KS, and later in Arvada, CO. He took up Golf after retirement and played until health problems intervened. During his working career, he was active in Federal Government Accountants Association, serving a term as President. He was an active dad with Greg's Boy Scouts group and the girls Job's Daughters. He is survived by his wife, Vesta; four children, Judy (Pat) Jones, Cindy Midyett, Shelly Miller, and Greg (Pam) Miller. 8 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Arvada United Methodist Church, 68th and Carr, Arvada.
