Frank was born June 1, 1937 in Atlanta Georgia to his parents, John and Elizabeth Applegate. He was ultimately raised by his father and grandfather, whom he called Pappy. Frank graduated from Sylvan High School in Atlanta at the age of sixteen. He played college baseball for two years at the University of Georgia. He then played professional baseball for two years in the Washington Senators and the San Francisco Giants minor league farm systems. Then he played college basketball at Georgia State for one season, before returning to UGA to finish his degree in Physical Education. Frank also served two years in the United States Marine Corps. Frank married Patsy Crenshaw Applegate (deceased 2018) on December 23, 1960. They moved to Arvada, Colorado in 1966, where they put down roots and raised their family. Frank was father to Tim (deceased 2007), Mike (wife Jennifer), Kathy (husband Jim, deceased 2016) and Scott (wife Janell). Papa to grandchildren, Brad, Rena, Jesse, Noah, Micah, Micayla, Ryan, Adam, Daniel, Marcus, Chayse, Chandlyr, Damion plus sixteen great-grandchildren. “Not too bad for an only child raised by his dad and pappy,” he would affectionately let everyone know. Frank had a successful career in the insurance business and was a natural in sales because of his authenticity and kind demeanor. Over the years Frank coached several of his children’s and grandchildren’s sports teams and as “Coach” was able to positively influence so many. On April 12, 1987 Frank and Patsy came into agreement with Jesus Christ that He is Lord and Savior of all. This eternally changed the course of both of their lives. Frank was an active member at Faith Bible Chapel for many years and was a founding member of Novation Church as a proud and supportive dad to Scott and his wife Janell. Frank went to heaven on November 20, 2020. A private memorial service for the family will be held at Novation Church on Sunday, December 6th at 2:00 PM.
