April 29, 1940 - December 28, 2014 Home for two days from a trip to Budapest, Frank Cowan passed away suddenly on December 28, 2014 leaving behind his soul mate of 40 years, Sindee, his pride and joy, son Eric, daughter-in-law Lori, and his remarkable grandchildren Troy, Rhett, and Jill. He departs from his cousin Bicki Roberts and her husband Alan, and leaves behind his best Scottish mate, Bob. Born in Dallas, but raised in Corsicana, Frank returned to Dallas to attended Richardson High School, then college at North Texas State. Frank became a “super-piper” and later an “old-piper”, we're not talking plumbing, and we're talking petro-chemical engineering design. His love of travel carried into his work that took him to the North Slope, Norway, Venezuela, and the Netherlands Frank's fondest childhood memories were trips to see his grandmother who raised turkeys in Wetmore, Colorado. Later in life he was fortunate enough to accept a job opportunity and raise his family in Denver. Employed by a couple in 1978 at Stearns and he ended his career with the same couple. Frank was a lover of classic literature and reveled in the outdoors. He loved the oceans, mountains, and all animals. He was a fisherman and a sailor; sporting a tattoo of the consummate sailor Popeye. He was a proud HAM operator and was once a clarinet player in a Dixieland band. He and Sindee had their first date on January 17, 1974 and were married on July 15, 1974. Constant companions and best friends, sharing a love of travel and good food. He called her his “little flower”, “butterfly,” and “teapot”. She called him her “heartbeat”, her “rock” and her “life”. They were the couple who finished each other's sentences, walking down lanes hand-in-hand. A raconteur, bon-vivant, poet, and occasional chef, his life passion was travel. Friends knew not to broach the subject lest they be prepared for his stories. Frank and Sindee traveled extensively around the world including Europe, South East Asia, Central and South America, Caribbean, Middle East, Africa, and Yap Micronesia. Creating a lifetime of memories, they experienced Carnivale and New Years in Venice, Octoberfest in Munich, the dancing lights of the Eifel tower, mussels in Brussels at Chez Leon, a palace stay in Istanbul, Rick's café in Casablanca and wandered at the Christmas markets in Germany, Austria, Budapest, and Singapore. Wherever they went, they took the road less traveled. They lived the expat life in Kota Kinabalu, Borneo and Sanur, Bali for an unforgettable period of 6 years. Frank loved the adventure of travel, embracing all cultures, meeting fascinating people, and enjoyed all the food, even the bizarre, offered by the locals. From living on board a sinking ship in the Flores Sea, to running from thugs in Munich, to side-stepping mating Komodo dragons, he had his share of tales to tell. Frank lived a full rich life and said many times “if I were to die today, I die a happy man” Thanks to the generosity of longtime friends, we invite you to celebrate his well lived life and raise a glass to an unforgettable man on January 17th, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the home Mike and Anita McIntyre, 525 Estes Street, Lakewood, CO 80226.
