Frances "Fran" Elaine Weber was born March 7, 1946 in Hartford, Ct. She passed away unexpectedly, at the age of 72, after sudden cardiac arrest at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, Co. Fran was preceded in death by her father, Asa Martin Smith and mother, Stephanie Joan Smith (Sledjeski), and her loving husband, Charles "Chuck" Robert Weber, Jr. Fran is survived by her children, Paul (Evelyn) David Weber, Sr. of Mattoon, Il and Carolyn (Tom) Marie Huffman (Weber) of Lakewood, Co, her brother Martin (Kathy) Smith, and sisters Judith (Gary) Burchard, Beverly (John) Raines, and Virginia Spencer, all of Tucson, Az. She had 8 beautiful grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She also had many nieces and nephews. All of her loved ones will always remember her for being kind, loving, involved and easy to talk with. Fran grew up in Tucson, Az. Her mother was a homemaker and her father was a painter. As a child, she wanted to be a secretary and did do office work for a time. She moved to Chicago, Il where she met Chuck. They married on May 4, 1966. They moved to Mattoon, Il and were married until his death in 2007. Fran worked for General Electric for 32 years, retiring in 2002. Although she coped with a variety of health problems, she always remained positive, fun and extremely loving. Fran loved cooking and cherished her time in the kitchen and preparing for and serving others at family gatherings and in everyday life. It was always special to her to shop in kitchen stores for the best pans, dishes, and utensils to be found. She found joy in crocheting, knitting and needle point. Gardening became another much enjoyed way for her talents to be expressed. She also enjoyed reading and could often be found relaxing in a chair or on a blanket during picnics and campouts while doing so. She was, for several years, involved in the hospital guild at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital and volunteered many hours at Broadway Christian Church, both in Mattoon, Il. Her greatest desire was to spend time with her grandchildren; loving on, teaching and sharing with them. Fran wanted to be remembered for being a "really good grandma and treating others as she wanted to be treated". At these things, she was a master! She will be deeply missed, but leaves a legacy for all to sincerely cherish. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, February 23, 2019 at noon at Lakewood Church of Christ in Lakewood, Co. A lunch reception will follow with Fran's most loved tacos, chili dogs and lemon meringue pie. The burial of her cremains will be at the burial site of her lifelong love and husband, Chuck, at Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, Il at a later date.
