Floyd Clay Sr.

January 11, 1945 — October 12, 2023

On October 12, 2023, Floyd “Skipper” Clay finished the fight and won the race set before him here on earth and was welcomed into the Presence of God.

Floyd, known throughout his life as “Skipper” was born to Lawrence and Jessie R. Clay on January 11, 1945, in San Angelo, Texas. He and his parents along with Brothers, Don, Harvey and Carl later moved to Midland, Texas where Skipper attended Carver High School until his graduation at the age of 16 in 1961. Upon graduation, Skipper worked as a Porter with First National Bank while attending college and working The Swanky Nite Club, and The Cobra Club operated by his dad, Lawrence. Skipper received a bachelor’s degree in business administration through the University of Phoenix, and attended Prairie View A&M, and University of Texas Austin respectively.

In 1964, Skipper married Betty J. Clay. To this union they were blessed with daughters Melba Sue and Donna, and son, Floyd “Lil Skipper”, Jr. Floyd attended Midland College upon its opening majoring in Law with a Minor in Oil Production. Skipper worked for Texaco for many years before joining the Oil and Gas Production Dept. with Forest Oil Corporation. During his tenure with Forest Oil Corporation, Skipper was transferred to Denver, Colorado, where he and wife Brenda chose Arvada as their home. During his time off he enjoyed working at the Baseball Stadium and offering his expertise as an Oil Production Consultant. Prior to retiring from Forest Oil Corporation, Skipper was the Corporate Risk Manager. Once he retired, he worked as an Independent Risk Consultant.

It is really hard to summarize a full life of 78 years in a few words. Skipper will be remembered as a MAN of Integrity and Leadership. He was THE BEST DADDY EVER! He was able to love and respect people and guided and taught his children the foundation of Christ and used the authority he was given with dignity and grace. He was a man of few words, but full of Wisdom and Humility.

Skipper Leaves to mourn, yet cherish and memorialize him his daughter Donna Clay, son Floyd “Lil Skipper "Clay (Sonia) both of Midland. Brothers Harvey Clay (Shirley) of Shreveport, Louisiana, Don Clay of Midland, Tx. His Stepdaughters Karen Wilson (Jay) of Colorado, and Katie Knudson (Don) of Granbury, Tx. Cherishing his memory are his Grandchildren, Demond (Holly) Clay, of Southlake, Texas, Kristen Clay of Mansfield, Tx. Britney and Briana Clay of Spring, Tx. Floyd Clay, III of Galveston, Tx. Jordon Ramsoure, Jaedon Ramsoure and Kynnadi Clay, all of Midland, Tx. James Wilson, Jr of Colorado, George Kuhn, V and Austin Kuhn all of Colorado, Joe Waters of Washington State, and Angie Waters of Granbury, Tx, along with numerous great grandchildren.

Those who preceded him in joining Christ are his loving parents, Lawrence and Jessie Mae, Brother Carl, Daughter Melba Sue, Stepson George and wife Brenda.

Wow! I hope Heaven has a phone, because Skipper said if anyone had any questions or concerns regarding his wishes to call him!

“Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tender hearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” Colossians 3:12

This is truly how Skipper lived his life and is greatly missed and forever loved.
