January 22, 1922 - July 2, 2011 Knickerbocker, Emma Leona Richards Knickerbocker, age 89 died on Saturday, July 2,2011 in Wheat Ridge, CO. She was born January 22, 1922 in the town of LaJunta, Colorado to Mary Blanche Russell Richards and John Monico Richards. She graduated from Bayfield High School in 1940 and was united in marriage to Lee Blair Knickerbocker on June 30, 1944.They lived in Cocoa Florida, Corpus Christi TX, Bayfield CO, Durango CO, Farmington NM, Pearisburg VA and Roanoke VA. Leona worked as a secretary for the Pentagon during WWII, later for the Department of Reclamation, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Giles County of Virginia and the Veterans Administration. She and her husband retired to Roanoke VA in 1985.Leona returned to Durango in 2004 after the death of her husband and made her final move to Evergreen, CO in 2010. Leona is survived by her son, Alan (Jennifer Donham) Knickerbocker,Nolensville TN, her daughters, Jean (Leslie)Knickerbocker Williams, Troutville VA and Donna(Dennis) Knickerbocker Malone,Evergreen CO, 15 grandchildren, Tracey and Tammy Tyner, Elisabeth(Kalvin) Knickerbocker Evans, Maria (Vincent) Knickerbocker Macias, Christina, David,Cherie Knickerbocker, Holly, Brandon,(MarySusan),Valerie and Emily Williams, Meagan and Molly Malone, Elizabeth and Iain Donham, 8 great grandchildren, Jessica (Josh) Archuleta Foster and son Juna, Brandon Tyner, Kristin, Mariah, Jordan and Elijah,Aysia,and Aniya Evans. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband and her daughter Marjorie Ann "Marty" Knickerbocker. Leona will be interred alongside her husband at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem VA. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name at the Shenandoah Baptist Church, 6520 Williamson Road, Roanoke, VA 24019.
