Duane Weatherly was born in Fort Collins, Colorado on May 19, 1930. He was the oldest of five, born to Lena and Park Weatherly. He grew up with four brothers: Floyd, Lloyd, Jim, and Doug. His early years were filled with the kind of wisdom that can only be acquired by working on a farm. The lessons he learned here continued to impact his whole life. In 1952, at a high school basketball game, Duane's life forever changed when he met the love of his life, Jean. During their courtship they enjoyed roller skating every Friday night and movie dates. They were married on March 21, 1954, the beginning of a 63 year marriage. Soon after they married, they moved to Tulsa for a short time. Colorado called them back and they started a new life in Salida, CO. On September 3, 1955 Duane and Jean welcomed their first son, Terry. A few years later, On March 1, 1958, Terry was joined by a younger sister, Cheryl. Their family was complete when Gary was born on March 23, 1962. In 1963, the family moved to Arvada, Colorado. Duane worked in construction throughout his career. He owned a door shop for several years, and also did a lot of work in re-modeling. He was a skilled craftsman and took a lot of pride in his work and taking care of his family. Some of his favorite times were spent at family gatherings, playing games and telling stories. He also enjoyed his regularly scheduled card games with his buddies. Duane and Jean enjoyed an active social life, surrounded by many valuable friendships. Duane loved nature and being outdoors, and some of his favorite times were spent by a campfire. Duane was a story teller. He enjoyed sharing stories about his life on the farm and could keep an audience captive for hours. Duane will be missed by so many, but his story will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
